
John M. Beck
John M. Beck was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, and grew up in Nyssa, Oregon. He is a descendant of pioneers in the Martin handcart company. Brother Beck has a Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University and a Master’s Degree from Northern Arizona University in Government and History. Employed for 32 years with the LDS Seminaries and Institutes, he currently serves as an Associate Director at the Orem Institute of Religion. There he teaches classes in LDS Church History, Teachings of the Living Prophets, and Book of Mormon.
Brother Beck has traveled widely and has done extensive research in Church and American history. He has directed various tours to American and Church history sites and coordinated a very successful Church history program for young single adults. One participant wrote, “Brother Beck was so inspirational. He taught me more about Church history during these short 20 days than I have learned in my whole life.”
Brother Beck served a mission in Brazil. He has been a Bishop and High Councilor and has recently been released as President of the Provo Utah Grandview East Stake. He is married to Lynette Hall Beck of St. Johns, Arizona, and they have eight children and twelve grandchildren. The Becks’ hobbies include hiking, reading, gardening, four-wheeling, and raising children.
