Terry W. CallIsrael, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and Mesoamerica have become the most exciting places in the world in the world to our family because of their connection to the scriptures. We were first introduced to the world of the Bible in 1994 on our first tour of the Holy Land. Since then, we directed tours back to Israel and Egypt, to the Lands of the Book of Mormon in Mesoamerica and the Travels of the Apostles in Turkey and Greece with BYU Travel Study and most recently with LDS Travel Study. We were privileged to have had the great opportunity of living in Israel while teaching at the Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies during the 1997–98 academic school year. We took our family with us for that one-year experience, and we fell in love even more with Israel, Egypt, Turkey and Jordan as we led students through these various countries. We love leading these tours and are excited to help others feel the great “spirit of place” which exists in these areas of the world.
Brother Call’s abilities in leading a spiritually uplifting and edifying tour stem from his great love and understanding of the scriptures. Brother Call has conducted tours in the Holy Land, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Mesoamerica. He has also taught at the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies, leading over 200 students to various locations in Israel, Jordan, Turkey and Egypt. His ability to integrate the scriptures with the sites and events helped provide the tour participants with a deep appreciation for the Savior, His prophets and the apostles.
He has taught with CES for 31 years. After teaching seminary for almost five years in Utah, he was asked in 1983 to serve as a CES Coordinator and Institute Instructor in the Washington, D.C. area, where he stayed for seven years. In 1990, he was assigned by the Church Educational System to teach institute in St. George, Utah. It was from St. George that he, along with his family, departed to teach in Jerusalem for BYU in 1997. He was then asked to teach at the Boise Institute of Religion adjacent to Boise State University, where he served for six years as the Director. Brother Call accepted a position at Brigham Young University – Idaho in 2005 where he now serves on the faculty of the Religion Department.
While teaching seminary, Brother Call obtained his Master of Education degree from Brigham Young University in 1980. Shortly thereafter, he started work on a Doctorate in Higher Education from BYU. In August of 1983, after taking a sabbatical leave from CES, he received his Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from BYU. He has taught Adult Religion Classes for many years for BYU Continuing Education and has made several presentations at the CES Conference for seminary and institute teachers, at the BYU Idaho Education Week, for the Know Your Religion Lecture Series and the Brigham Young University Idaho Lecture Series.
Brother Call and his wife, Cynthia, enjoy being with each other on these tours and mix their talents well in helping all to have an enjoyable experience in the Holy Land and the other lands of the scriptures throughout the world. They personalize the tour and like to become completely involved in everything they do to edify and uplift all.
