Jonn D. Claybaugh

I think I was Hispanic in my past life! I have always been fascinated by the Spanish language, the people who speak it, and the lands where they live. Traveling in Mesoamerica is as much a cultural experience (because of the people), as it is an educational and intellectual experience (because of the land and the geography). Plus, it is a spiritual experience, thanks to the Book of Mormon and the people who join the tours.

Jonn D. Claybaugh received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Psychology from Cal State San Bernardino and his Master's degree in Educational Administration from Brigham Young University.

He has taught in Utah and California seminaries and served as an Institute Director and Coordinator of seminaries in Victorville and Fresno, California. Currently, he teaches at the Orem Institute of Religion.

Brother Claybaugh has been a writer for a number of Church manuals and other curriculum projects. He has been a lecturer for BYU Education Week and CES and Sperry Symposia, and has written several book chapters and articles for the Ensign magazine. A mission to Argentina helped Brother Claybaugh develop a love for the people of Latin America. He has directed a number of tours to Israel, Egypt, Italy, Central America, and Church History sites. He is devoted to the lands and especially the people of the Hispanic world.

Brother Claybaugh and his wife, Judy, are both from Southern California. They have three sons, three daughters, and four grandchildren (so far!). Brother Claybaugh’s hobbies include playing the guitar, singing, motorcycle riding, snorkeling, going to the beach and waterskiing with his family, and coaching his children’s sports teams. Brother Claybaugh served as a Mission President in Costa Rica and has served as a Bishop in his home ward.
