Victor L. Ludlow

As with each trip to the Holy Land, I am excited about the possibilities for learning we can experience. Not only do the cultures and peoples enrich our lives, but our travels together strengthen our under-standing of the scriptures and our relationship with the Savior and his servants, the prophets and apostles.

Victor L. Ludlow is one of the foremost authorities on the Holy Land, Near Eastern and Jewish history, and the scriptures in the Church today. He has done extensive scholarly research into Judaism and has directed more than 25 travel study tours to the Holy Land. He was also the Director of three six-month Undergraduate Studies programs in Jerusalem. Brother Ludlow graduated with high honors from Brigham Young University and did graduate work at Harvard and Brandeis universities, where he was recognized as a Danforth Fellow. He received his doctorate (PhD) in Near Eastern and Judaic studies.

Brother Ludlow is a professor of ancient scripture at BYU, where he has been teaching since 1972. He served as the Director of Bible studies for the Religious Studies Center. He is currently the coordinator for Near Eastern studies at BYU. Brother Ludlow is the author of many papers and the following books: Unlocking The Old Testament; Isaiah: Prophet, Seer, and Poet; and Principles and Practices of the Restored Gospel.

Since 1973 Brother Ludlow has conducted authentic Passover feasts at BYU for those interested in learning more about Jewish culture. Tens of thousands of people have been educated and enriched by this annual event. He has lectured extensively throughout the United States and Canada on a wide range of topics.

Brother Ludlow's church callings have included Branch President, High Councilor, Bishop, Stake Young Men's President, Counselor in a Stake Presidency, and Mission President of the Germany Frankfurt Mission (1983-86). His most common callings have been as a Gospel Doctrine teacher, Aaronic Priesthood advisor, and Varsity Scout team coach.

He has served the community as the BSA Provo District Scout Chairman and Varsity Commissioner, in the Provo Rotary Club on its Board of Directors and as its President in 2000-01, as a certified first-aid & CPR instructor with the American Red Cross, as a Little League Baseball and Youth Basketball Association coach, and in minor political offices.

He and his wife, V-Ann (Virginia Ann), enjoy golf, bowling, camping, hiking, and traveling to the Middle East. They are the parents of four sons and two daughters.
