Allan M. Gunnerson

There is not another region of the world that is treasured with as much importance in one’s desire to better understand his or her roots as for descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to return to the Holy Land. Even though the centuries have changed the landscape, the people, culture, sites, even the sounds and smells—whether in Jerusalem or Galilee—forever enhance one’s perspective of the ancient patriarchs and the life and teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Allan Gunnerson was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Geography and International Relations. He received a Master of Education degree in Secondary School Administration and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from Brigham Young University.

As an educator, Brother Gunnerson’s career has been with the Church Educational System, including 34 years as a seminary and institute teacher and administrator. He is currently Director of the Salt Lake University Institute of Religion adjacent to the University of Utah. He has taught BYU adult education classes and participated in Know Your Religion lectures. He has developed and taught classes on the culture and geography of the Holy Land.

Outside of his career in the Church Educational System, Brother Gunnerson has consulted in the area of compensation management and served in various community responsibilities. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for a large credit union. 

His LDS Church service has included a mission to the British Isles, Bishop’s Counselor, member of the High Council, Bishop, Counselor in a Stake Presidency, and Stake President. 

Brother Gunnerson is married to Vicki Peterson Gunnerson, and they are the parents of seven children. Sister Gunnerson is currently a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They have enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land, where they have directed numerous tours.
