Chad Hawkins

Although I gain great satisfaction from creating artwork of varying subjects, there is nothing I would rather paint than these modern-day monuments to sacrifice, hard work, and faith. My testimony and love for the Lord's House is an integral part of my art. I hope my art has a positive impact on people's lives, that the viewers may be motivated to become, in the words of President Howard W. Hunter, "...a temple-attending and a temple-loving people."

Chad S. Hawkins began his series of temple artwork in 1989, at the age of seventeen to support his two-year mission in Frankfurt, Germany, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return in 1993, he continued with his artwork while pursuing his education of becoming a dentist. Just prior to his application to dental school, Chad realized that he would be sacrificing his art career to the discipline required in dental school. It was at that time that he made the adjustment from being a zoology and chemistry major to an art major, graduating from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Chad's portfolio to date includes special commissions from the Governor of Utah, the Utah State Legislature, West Jordan City Hall, the University of Utah, This Is the Place State Park, and the law firm of Siegfried and Jensen. His artwork has been featured in LDS magazines, including the New Era and the Ensign. Chad's artwork was selected to be placed in the cornerstones of at least thirteen temples. His original work of the Vernal Temple is on permanent display inside that edifice.

To prepare for his book, The First 100 Temples, Chad visited 55 temples and conducted over 100 interviews. His original works of art are in private collections across the country.

Chad's most recent book, Faith in the Service, focuses on th sacrifice and dedication of Latter- day Saint men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, and other locations around the world.  To share the stories of these service men and women, Chad conducted personal on-site interviews.

Chad continues sharing his talents and love for the gospel.  He and his family currently reside in Layton, Utah.
