John S. Atherton

John served two years of his life as a missionary in Peru and Ecuador and since that time in the mission field, he has guided many tours to Peru.

It truly is a land of mystery and diversity; from the coastal desert and the snow-capped Andes to the Amazon Rainforest, Peru is the ideal destination for travelers.

John especially enjoys sharing his knowledge of the ancient Peruvian civilizations of Chiclayo, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu.  He speaks Spanish fluently and has a real connection with the Hispanic people.

John and his wife, Cathy, are the parents of 6 children and the grandparents of 21.  Wherever John and Cathy travel, "fun" and "adventure" are words that epitomize their travel style.  Another place that they love to visit is the World of the Maya in Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and the Yucatan in Mexico.

John retired from the Church Educational System in 2007 after years of teaching seminary and institute students.  He received his Bachelor’s from Brigham Young University (1972), his Master’s from California State Polytechnic (1984) and his Doctorate from Brigham Young University (1989).
