George J. Talbot was appointed director of LDS Travel Study Tours, a division of Wren & Fida International, in September 2004. His career in the travel business began in 1973, when he was employed as operations supervisor for the Department of Travel Study at Brigham Young University. From 1978 to 1988, he served as controller of the BYU Division of Continuing Education. In July 1988 he returned to Travel Study as associate director and then served as director of the department from 1992 to 2004. He received the Administrative Excellence Award from the BYU Division of Continuing Education in 1996.
For many years Brother Talbot has worked closely with tour directors in providing gospel-oriented educational travel experiences. “I enjoy meeting and associating with people from all walks of life and from many different cultures. I also enjoy seeing people increase their secular and spiritual knowledge through travel. You learn so much more when you travel and activate all of your senses,” he said.
Brother Talbot has traveled extensively around the world and understands the great value of providing a unique experience within the framework of LDS beliefs.
One of Bro. Talbot’s favorite destinations is the Lands of the Book of Mormon. He has travelled with over 30 groups to Mexico and Central America. He enjoys the nature of the tours and the possible connections to the scriptures.
Brother Talbot attended high school in St. George, Utah, and received an associate degree from Dixie College. He received a bachelor’s degree in business and a master of accountancy degree from BYU. As a young man, he served in the Northern States Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has been a bishop twice and a branch president at the Missionary Training Center in Provo. Brother Talbot and his wife, Margaret, are the parents of five sons and four daughters, born in that order. They currently have 29 grandchildren.
