Todd Britsch

Brother Britsch has served as a bishop, Missionary Training Center branch president, on four high councils (twice in London), and as a long-time Gospel Doctrine teacher.  He is currently high priests group leader in his ward. He was married to the late Dorothy Crofts Britsch, a BYU business graduate, and they are the parents of two children.

Todd A. Britsch began his teaching career at Brigham Young University in 1966, after studying at the University of Hamburg, Germany, as a Fulbright Scholar, and at Florida State University, where he earned his Ph.D.  During his thirty-six years of full-time teaching, he served as department chair, dean of the College of Humanities, and academic vice-president of the university.  He served on many university-wide councils and committees and received the Abraham O. Smoot Citizenship Award.  His teaching was honored with the ASBYU Master Teacher Award, the Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Teaching Award, and as 2002 Honors Professor of the Year.  Shortly before his retirement, he was awarded the Dusenberry University professorship.

Professor Britsch participated in the BYU London Study Abroad program five times (three times as director), and he is a frequent traveler to the European continent.  He thinks of introducing students to British and European cultures as one of the high points of his career.  He continues to pursue his research interests in 18th -century culture and in art, literature, and music related to the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation.

When asked about Dr. Britsch’s teaching, students most frequently comment on his enthusiasm for his subject matter and his desire to help students understand why the humanities can be so stimulating.

Dr. Britsch is married to Judith Merrell Britsch.  Between them they are the parents of six children and grandparents of sixteen.
