$2400 land only, per person double occupancy

Days 1–2: May 25–26 U.S.A. • Transatlantic Flight to Tel Aviv, Israel

We will depart from our various locations in the U.S.A., meet at whichever international airport fits flight plans and travel to Israel. Arriving the following late afternoon or evening, we will begin the tour by traveling up through the hill country to historic Jerusalem and then check in to the Olive Tree Hotel for two nights.

Day 3: May 27                                  JerusalemBethlehem

We begin our study of the Savior’s life by reviewing prophecies foretelling His coming and His birth.  We will drive to Bethlehem to see the Church of the Nativity (including St. Jerome’s Grotto) and then visit Shepherds’ Field on the hills surrounding Bethlehem.  We will return to Jerusalem and visit the Israel Museum.  The museum includes the Shrine of the Book which contains the Dead Sea Scrolls (e.g., Isaiah, etc.) and the Model City of Jerusalem, which will give us an idea of how the city looked at the time of Jesus.

Day 4: May 28                        Jerusalem

We will begin this day with a stop on the Mount of Olives for an orientation and view of Jerusalem.  We will visit the Old City and tour of the Rabbinic Tunnel, view Lion’s Gate and the Pool of Bethesda, and recall the events recorded in John 5. We will then visit the Sisters of Zion Convent, built on the site of the Antonia Fortress, the location where Pilate may have questioned Jesus. Walking along the Via Dolorosa, we will visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and conclude the afternoon with shopping in the Christian Quarter of the Old City. Dinner will be early, after which those who choose to may visit the Western Wall to view the Jewish people welcoming in their Sabbath.

Day 5:  May 29                    Jerusalem

We will begin this special day with an early-morning visit to the Orson Hyde Memorial Garden to review the history of the LDS Church in Jerusalem and to have a group testimony meeting.  We will attend sacrament meeting with the Jerusalem Branch at the BYU Jerusalem Center and then visit Gethsemane, where near there the atoning sacrifice occurred. We will conclude the day by visiting Golgotha and the Garden Tomb and recall with sacredness the death and resurrection of the Savior

Day 6: May 30                       BethanyJerusalem

This day begins with a visit to Bethany—the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus—where we will see the traditional site of the Tomb of Lazarus.  We will then travel to the Holy (Temple) Mount, or Mount Moriah, ancient site of Abraham and Isaac’s sacrifice, and where the temples of Solomon and Herod stood.  The Mount is now occupied by the magnificent Dome of the Rock and El Aksa mosques. This is the site where Gabriel opened the New Testament and where the Savior did most of His teaching when He was in Jerusalem. We will then go to the traditional Upper Room—scene of the Last Supper, washing of feet, and the last teachings of Jesus to His disciples—and then see St. Peter’s in Gallicantu, possible site of the cock’s crowing and the palace of Caiaphas.  We will conclude the day with a walk-through of Hezekiah’s Tunnel, a water system built during the time of Isaiah, and which exits at the recent excavations of the Pool of Siloam mentioned in John 9.

Day 7:  May 31   Jerusalem Jericho Mt. Tabor • Tiberias • Galilee

We will leave Jerusalem in the early morning, paralleling the path Jesus would have taken from Jerusalem to Jericho.  As we pass near Jericho, we will discuss the important biblical events that occurred there and then turn north, traveling up the Jordan River Valley towards the Sea of Galilee.  We will drive to Mount Tabor and take taxis to the top for a discussion of the Savior’s Transfiguration.  If time permits, we will end our day by driving to upper Tiberias for a visit to the LDS Branch House to experience a panoramic view of the Sea of Galilee.  We will spend two nights at the Kibbutz Nof Ginosar, located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Day 8: June 1      Sea of Galilee • Capernaum Mount of Beatitudes

Our day will begin by visiting the Jesus Boat Museum and then taking a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee to recall the important events that transpired on or near the Sea.  We will drive to Capernaum, the center of Jesus’ Galilean ministry and where many miracles were preformed.  We will continue on to the Mount of Beatitudes, where we will review the Sermon on the Mount.  We will then return to Kibbutz Nof Ginosar to enjoy swimming and relaxing, and if possible, a watermelon bust on the beautiful grassy picnic area that overlooks the Sea.

Day 9:  June 2    NazarethJezreel ValleyCaesarea • Tel Aviv

We begin the day by driving east, passing near the village of Cana where Jesus performed His first miracle, arriving at Nazareth where we will visit the Nazareth Village and discuss the boyhood of Jesus and the manners and customs of the period that surrounded his life.  We will cross the historic Jezreel Valley and continue southeast through the Carmel mountain range and on through the beautiful Plain of Sharon, arriving at Caesarea Maritima to discuss Roman life during the time of Jesus.  We will arrive at Tel Aviv and check into the Hotel for one night.
